Introduction

Onboard the luxurious Seven Seas Explorer, voyage on a comprehensive journey across Japan and South Korea, discovering the diversity of each nation and immersing yourself amongst the local culture that varies at each destination you port at. Beginning in Tokyo, head along the southwestern coast and through the Kanmon Strait to South Korea with many encompassing stops along the way. Explore the southern Japanese islands of Naze and Okinawa before slowly heading back to Tokyo to complete your 14-night adventure.

Day-by-Day

Day 1: Tokyo

Board the Seven Seas Explorer in Tokyo, Japan’s enthralling and forward-thinking capital. Meet your expert crew and fellow travellers and settle into your luxurious cabin. After a delicious welcome dinner, the vessel will begin its voyage travelling south through the night for an early morning arrival in Nagoya.

Day 2: Nagoya

Nagoya is perhaps one of Japan’s most underrated gems and most of the day will be spent discovering its array of ornate temples, wide green spaces and fascinating museums. The city serves as a perfect introduction into the complexity of the country’s contrasting nature and modern elements of culture can be explored in conjunction with ancient traditions.

Day 3 & 4: Kyoto and Osaka

Two full days are afforded to explore the cities of Kyoto and Osaka, in which magnificent shrines, immaculate gardens and historic geisha districts can be found in abundance. Stroll through the verdant Nara Park; discover Osaka’s imposing castle and immerse yourself in Japanese flair with the crafts of Kyoto.

Day 5: Beppu

A day to relax in the natural hot springs of Beppu! The tradition in the city dates back centuries and a variety of bath types are available to absorb one of the more relaxed aspects of Japan’s vibrant culture.

Day 6: At Sea

A day at sea to enjoy the exceptional facilities of the Seven Seas Explorer as it heads along the Kanmon Strait towards South Korea.

Day 7: Busan

Early morning arrival in South Korea allowing for a full day to explore the country’s second largest city, Busan, one of the largest commercial ports in the world. Known locally as ‘the summer capital of South Korea’ a fulfilling day awaits discovering the exceptional beaches, scenic cliffs and ancient temples of the city.

Day 8: Jeju

Travel south to Jeju, a breathtaking island of considerable natural beauty and a unique culture. Here you will find an abundance of rare and diverse flora and fauna which thrive in the conditions created by the Biosphere Reserve and the imposing dormant volcano of Hallasan. Hike in the UNESCO protected national park and try the local culinary delicacies.

Day 9: Nagasaki

Head back to Japan and port in the southwestern city of Nagasaki. Whilst the city remains infamous for the dropping of the world’s second atomic bomb, you will find Nagasaki a charming and vibrant city where a guided tour will explore its modern culture just as much as its turbulent history.

Day 10: Naze

Today you will be exploring one of Japan’s most picturesque islands, located far off the southern coast of the mainland. Naze is truly a natural paradise with a myriad of white sandy beaches, verdant coral reefs and dense primary forests. Your time here is free with a choice of activities ranging from snorkelling and diving excursions to kayaking tours of the Kuroshio no Mori Mangrove Park, Japan’s second-largest mangrove forest.

Day 11: Okinawa

Travel even further south overnight with an early morning arrival at the island of Okinawa. Okinawa has a rich cultural history with its own distinct traditions and the day will largely be spent discovering the heritage of the island and its importance to Japan. Visit the tranquil Shikinaen Gardens; browse along the vibrant district of Kokusai Dori; sample the local cuisine and take part in a traditional tea ceremony.

Day 12: At Sea

A day at sea to enjoy the exceptional facilities of the Seven Seas Explorer as it heads along the Kanmon Strait towards South Korea.

Day 13: Kochi

With an expansive coastline that runs from the Kuroshio Current to the clear Shimanto River, it is no surprise that Kochi is a region of beautiful natural landscapes. Marvel at the rugged mountains, deep green forests and mystical limestones caves and relax on the undulating sandy beaches on a fulfilling day spent on Japan’s southern coast.

Day 14: Shimizu

Your final full day of the cruise is spent in the lively port of Shimizu where on a clear day, magnificent views of Mount Fuji can be enjoyed over a fresh cup of local tea. Visit the renowned Shimizu Sushi Museum to discover the history of Japan’s most iconic culinary delights and visit the colourful markets of the city.

Day 15: Fly Home

Arrive back in Tokyo in the early morning and disembark the Seven Seas Explorer to transfer back to the international airport for your onward flight.
