Perched on an expansive private lagoon in the virtually untouched South Nilandhe Atoll in the Maldives, and just a 40-minute seaplane journey from Velana International Airport, Angsana Velavaru (the island known as “Turtle Island” in the local Dhivehi language) is surrounded by sparkling turquoise waters and ocean views as far as the eye can see. This luxurious tropical getaway offers 79 private villas, all with beach frontage, and a cluster of 34 InOcean Villas, the first standalone collection of water villas in the Maldives perched one kilometre from the main island.
Angsana Velavaru is situated on the Dhaalu’ Atoll of the Maldives which encompasses a total of 56 islands - only seven of which are inhabited - stretching across 23km in the Arabian Ocean. The atoll is fringed with exquisite reefs home to prolific sea life. History enthusiasts will delight in a visit to the old mosque at Kudahuvadhoo, the Dhaalu’s capital, to see some incredible masonry, as well as the island’s strange mounds called ‘hawiitas’, and the 300-year-old Masjid at Rinbudhoo Island. Be sure to take the walk from Bulhalafushi to Naibukaloabodufushi at low tide for an unusual exploration of the uninhabited islands.
